Even though the sun was shining back in London, I was craving some time on the beach, so where better than beautiful Croatia!
As you know, I love architecture, history, sun, sea and sand. With it's historic cities, gorgeous islands and stunning beaches I knew Croatia would tick all my boxes within a reasonable price
I only had 6 days to explore Croatia but wow did I make the most of it. I love this place, so much to see and do, another country I'll have to go back to!
Here's my Top 5 tips:
#1. Walk Dubrovnik City Walls
My number one thing to do was taking a walk of the Dubrovnik city walls. There's so much to see as you walk all around the perimeter of the Old Town, as well as stunning views out to sea.
Here you get a real feel of the age and history of Dubrovnik - well worth getting a guide or reading up on the history so you get full value for your walk
Top Tip: Beware of the midday sun and time your walk for early morning or late afternoon
#2. Visit Lokrum Island
Just 15 minutes from Dubrovnik Old Town sits the gorgeous island of Lokrum.
Benedictine monks used to occupy the island, building a monastery and looking after the botanical gardens that still stand today.
Legend has it that in 1123, Richard Lionheart was cast ashore after being shipwrecked whilst returning from the Crusades.
This is a really stunning island with lots of history, peacocks and lovely buildings. No wonder Game of Thrones chose this place as the setting for many scenes. You can even sit on a replica of the Iron Throne here!
Get the ferry here from the Old Town Port or kayak over if you're feeling adventurous. Definitely take the walk up to visit the Fort and venture to the lagoon to cool off after.
Top Tip: Arrive early to beat the crowds, and bring your own lunch and bread for the peacocks!
#3. Explore the Old Town
Inside the walled city of Dubrovnik is the Old Town, a bustling hive of activity, especially when the Cruise ships turn up at 11am!
There's loads to see so just take a walk and explore the beautiful architecture and sights.
I loved exploring the picturesque side streets, especially the ones heading up the hill. Check out Pile Gate, Ploce Gate and Sponza Palace. If you're a big Game of Thrones fan you can get a themed Tour to show you all the filming locations mixed in with a bit of history
Top Tip: Dubrovnik is just as beautiful at night, and definitely much quieter!

#4. Enjoy the beaches of Korcula
This one is definitely for those of you with a bit more time on your hands, or with a hire car! We took an early morning 3 hour drive up to the island of Korcula and are so glad we did it.
The island can only really be explored by car after taking a car ferry from the mainland, especially if you want to see the unbelievably crystal clear waters in the many beaches and coves.
Our top highlights were the beaches of Lumbarda, Pupnatska Luka and Old Korcula Town
Top Tip: The drive up the coast is gorgeous and so easy, with hour of endless jaw dropping views. Take a break at Ston, home to the longest fortified wall in Europe
#5. Take in the views from Fort Lovrijenac
Climb the stairs to Fort Lovrijenac for breathtaking views of Dubrovnik and Lokrum.
Yet another setting for lots of Game of Thrones scenes, this old Fortress gives a glimpse into the scale of the Old Town fortifications that were needed to resist attacks from sea and land.
It also hosts live open air plays and Opera through the summer!
Top Tip: You get free entrance with the City Walls ticket, make sure you don't pay twice!

A short cab ride or 15 minute bus from Dubrovnik Old Town sits the elegant 4* hotel Valamar Argosy.
The hotel is clean, modern and great value for money, especially you grab a late deal like we did with British Airways. The food was fantastic as was the live music
